(CNN) – President Obama on Saturday linked the man accused in a botched Christmas Day airline bombing to an al Qaeda affiliate based in Yemen.

The president pledged that everyone involved in the attack would be held accountable. He also highlighted his administration’s attempts to crack down on extremist enclaves in Yemen, and reiterated his longstanding promise to “disrupt, dismantle and defeat” al Qaeda.

Obama has been criticized by some political opponents for not responding more aggressively to a botched December 25 attempt to blow up a Northwest Airlines passenger jet en route from Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Detroit, Michigan.

Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab is accused of trying to ignite explosives smuggled aboard the plane in his underwear. Obama confirmed Saturday that AbdulMutallab, 23, recently traveled to Yemen and “it appears that he joined an affiliate of al Qaeda.”

Michael Leiter, director of the National Counterterrorism Center, said the attempted attack is a stark reminder of the threats the United States is still facing more than eight years after the September 11, 2001, attacks.

“While this attempt ended in failure, we know with absolute certainty that [al Qaeda] and those who support its ideology continue to refine their methods to test our defenses and pursue an attack on the homeland,” Leiter said in a statement Saturday.

The group, al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, apparently trained AbdulMutallab, “equipped him with … explosives and directed him to attack that plane headed for America,” Obama said.

As I was browsing through the internet, I found this interesting article about Obama. Definitely worth reading…

Here is an excerpt..

WASHINGTON — President Obama still insists that we can “spend our way out of this recession” to create jobs, and Democrats are pushing another spending stimulus in a vain attempt to do just that.

What is being called “son of stimulus” on Capitol Hill is essentially the same snake-oil remedies in the original nearly $800 billion stimulus: billions more for highway, bridge and other infrastructure projects, tax incentives to persuade people to make their homes more energy efficient, and limited tax breaks for small businesses that still keep the tax rates where they are as these businesses await the bigger Obama tax hikes to come.

With unemployment stuck at 10 percent — 16 percent if you count millions of jobless Americans who have given up looking for work — it is now clear that the first stimulus isn’t working. Remember, the definition of “crazy” is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Obama said earlier this year that his spending stimulus would bring the jobless rate down to 7.8 percent, but unemployment continued to rise and nearly 4 million more Americans are looking for work. Clearly, ever more borrowing and spending isn’t going to work, either.

“I think it’s a really bad idea if they do more of the same. The fact is, the administration is crowing about having created, say, 640,000 jobs, but if you look at how much money they’ve spent, that’s $1.2 million per job. If they had just taken the stimulus money and hired people at the average U.S. wage, they would have created 21 million jobs. And so, where is the multiplier? It’s gone,” economist Kevin Hassett told a House Republican jobs conference earlier this month.

A number of reports have come out lately that say we’re not going to see a significant improvement in the jobs picture anytime soon.

The American Institute for Economic Research, a leading economic-forecasting firm, said the economy remains weak and “the recovery may be unsustainable.”

“We have witnessed and chronicled many recessions. And in our studied opinion the economy today is not on the mend — it has instead registered what the medical community calls a ‘false positive,’” AIER said in its latest report.

How the mighty have fallen. In the polls, that is. According to a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, Obama’s still in positive territory. Barely.

The latest survey puts the president’s approval at 49%-46%. But that’s not just low, it’s historically low. Here’s how other presidents have fared at this point in their presidencies:

George W. Bush 86%
John Kennedy 77%
George Bush 71%
Dwight Eisenhower 69%
Richard Nixon 59%
Jimmy Carter 57%
Bill Clinton 54%
Reagan 49%
Obama 49%

Although they both had 49% approval rating, that evil conservative Ronald Reagan rates higher than Obama because his negatives were lower (41% for Reagan vs 46% for Obama).

The poll of 1,025 adults, taken by landline and cellphone, has a margin of error of 4 percentage points, which means that Obama’s approval rating could be as low as 45%.

Give it another couple months and Obama will be recalling these as the good old days.

War means mass killing, and the only justification for any killing is clear-cut self-defense. The United States has no justification for our continued military occupation of Afghanistan or a new systematic liquidation of the Taliban. The September 11th attack against the United States was carried out by Al-Qaeda, not the Taliban, and Al-Qaeda exists all over the world, with far more active members in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom than in Afghanistan. The 911 attack was planned in the U.S.A., not in Afghanistan, and the airline hijackers got their flight training in the United States, not in Afghanistan. The Taliban are native born Afghan citizens with a legitimate right to be in Afghanistan. U.S. troops are outside invaders with no legitimate right to be there at all.

Barack Obama used the Afghan war as a gimmick to get himself elected president. During the political campaign, Barack Obama stated that Bush’s Iraq war was a tragic mistake, but the U.S. invasion and long term occupation of Afghanistan was somehow justified and we should send even more troops to finish the job. In this way Obama could look militarily tough while opposing George W. Bush’s highly unpopular war against Iraq. Now Barack Obama is confronted with the undeniable fact that his early increase in U.S. troop levels in Afghanistan has not improved the situation in any way, and the Taliban are gaining in strength every day as more and more Afghans join to fight to expel the foreign invaders,…us! Rather than admit he has been wrong all along about our invasion and occupation of Afghanistan, Barack Obama decided to kill thousands of human beings and waste billions of U.S. tax dollars fighting a war to save his own ego from the humiliation of having to admit that he has been wrong from the very beginning about Afghanistan.

Barack Obama’s ego driven war should be opposed and deplored just as much as Bush’s unjustified war in Iraq and Lyndon Johnson’s unjustified war in Vietnam. America’s big problems are at home, not abroad, and we should use our military to protect our own borders from illegal immigration, not to fight foreign wars that have no ethical or practical justification. Border security is a highly cost effective way to make the United States safer; foreign wars are deadly financial quicksand that produce no positive gain for American security or prosperity. The United States should instead strive to reduce global tensions by formulating an ethical foreign policy that has only one face. That means we need to bring all our troops home and end all U.S. financial support for Israel’s illegal war of land theft against the Palestinian people. As long as the United States supports the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their own homes, there will never be an end to terrorist attacks against the United States. As long as U.S. politicians cowardly continue to allow the America Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) to formulate our Middle East foreign policy, then the U.S.A. will never be a true democracy itself.

The United States should end its senseless economic embargo of Cuba and normalize relations with North Korea. America hypocritically preaches to the world about “freedom” while practicing ethnic cleansing, torture, invasion, mass bombings, and harsh economic embargoes against innocent civilian populations. Barack Obama claimed to be an agent of positive change, but has instead embraced the old thinking of our corrupt Washington establishment, in part because Obama is a shallow narcissist, not a believer in any cause higher than himself. Every American president has had a healthy ego, but none has ever been as purely motivated by vanity as the childishly self-loving Barack Obama.

Barack Obama has already killed millions of humans worldwide with his tragic, politically motivated biofuel hoax, and now he will kill even more with a pride driven war that makes no sense in terms of practical benefit for the Unites States. The United States is financially bankrupt, and Barack Obama is borrowing his war money mainly from China, which now holds almost a trillion dollars in United States Treasury securities. Making the United States financially and politically subservient to the totalitarian government of China is a true threat to our national security, but Barack Obama is mainly concerned with his own inflated self-image, not with the welfare of the American people.

Obama wants to fight a war against conservative Moslem Afghan nationalists, the Taliban, who have never attacked the United States and who pose no military threat to the United States. The Taliban have no air force and no navy, and their backward ways are their own business and should not be the concern of the American people. The United States does not own the world and has no right to to use violence to reshape the world in our own image. The United States should endeavour to lead the world through quiet example, and needs to and clean up its own house before judging others. The United States is largely run by big-moneyed special interest groups, not by voters, so we are in reality a somewhat phony democracy.

Many Americans have a sick and twisted love of war as a blood sport, and we have tremendous national pride in our ability to kill and destroy better than anyone else. The Afghan war is like a football game for Barack Obama, and he does not want to lose the big game that he has invested so much of his ego in expanding. The United States, as the Roman Empire, has military bases all over the world, and we have deluded ourselves into thinking that we own the world. Like Rome we will fail and fall, because in provable fact we are just another nation, not God, and our aggressive militarism is a luxury we can no longer afford.

The United States is collapsing under the weight of its own corruption and foolish policies. We need better leadership than Barack Obama can give us, and Democrats should not support Obama’s destructive schemes just because Obama is a fellow Democrat. If even conservatives like George Will, Patrick Buchanan, and Pat Robertson oppose Obama’s pointless war, then certainly Democratic leaders should be able to muster the courage to vote against funding Obama’s ego driven war in Afghanistan.

From CNN News…

Washington (CNN) — President Oboma met Sunday with Senate Democrats to try to rally support for a sweeping health care bill undergoing a heated debate in the chamber.

The gathering with the Democratic caucus lasted about 50 minutes, with Obama encouraging passage of the health care bill without talking specifically about all the outstanding issues, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said afterward.

One of those major issues — abortion — will come up Monday when the chamber votes on an amendment to tighten restrictions on federal funding for abortion by adding language included in the House version of the bill.

Obama’s visit came amid a rare Sunday session for the Senate as it considers the Democratic proposal that so far is unanimously opposed by Republicans.

White House spokesman Bill Burton said Obama “thanked members of the Senate for their hard work so far and encouraged them to continue forward on this historic opportunity” to pass health care reform legislation.

“The question now is whether or not we’re going to get it done,” Obama told the senators, according to Burton.

I found this interesting article in esquire.com. A what if Obama is crazy scenario. Here is the excerpts..

What if he’s crazy? Do we trust him, even though he’s not talking amiably to the empty air? Are we comfortable having him around, even though he’s the only one not playing with his toes in the punch bowl? Do we just ignore him, over there in the corner of the room, talking about the fact that there’s not enough food, and that the sink in the kitchen is backing up, and that the fire in the laundry room is getting out of control, and that there’s a hole in the floorboards where the stove just fell through while all the rest of us are worrying about the giant carnivorous bat-creatures — the ones only we can see — that are waiting to come swooping in through the windows if we dare open them to let a little fresh air into the place? If the village is full of idiots, what do you call the guy who has to sit on the wall and get the dung flung in his direction?

Listen to him. He’s talking in what seems to be a glossolalic deluge of issues. One plan a week, each thrown out there while we’re still digesting the previous one. He’s moving too fast for us to keep up with him. He’s talking a private language, to himself, like crazy people do, because he certainly can’t be talking to us, his strange, atrophied people, our capacity for large projects and great achievement, let alone for the participation in enlightened self-government that such projects and achievements require, something safely kept reserved for HBO historical miniseries. The muscles have gone slack, the nerve endings gone dead. He’s talking about phantoms, about ghosts, about things that aren’t really there. He’s speaking in tongues is what he’s doing.
